Week of Work and Worship 2023

Gratitude is something that can be hard to understand, especially in the face of struggles, trials, and failures. This past summer at our Week of Work and Worship, our students got to grow in their gratitude for things they have in their lives. It was a very hot week, but one without rain, where our students spent hours outside stacking firewood, pulling weeds, cleaning out ditches, planting shrubs, emptying out basements and garages, scrubbing tombstones, visiting those in nursing homes, and helping our parishioners.

Each of these jobs were important to those we helped and our students got the chance to understand that and to walk with those we served. Our Week of Work and Worship was an opportunity for students to hear stories from great speakers like Leah Beckman, Fr. Luke Hassler, and Deacon Mike on finding Gratitude in suffering, relationships, and prayer. To grow in their relationship with others and with Jesus Christ. A chance for them to participate in praise and worship, adoration, and prayer experiences. A true place for them to grow as individuals and a community.

I am grateful for each person who helped make this year’s Week of Work and Worship everything that it was. For those who cooked and served meals, those who attended the evening program and helped, and especially those adults who gave up their time during the day to make sure our students had work, transportation, and a leader to guide them through the day. We could not have completed this week without you.

If you would like to volunteer in any capacity for youth ministry events (i.e. bake brownies or cookies, prayer team, food team, adult chaperone, youth event sponsor, Jr. High Assistant) please reach out to me at cgehlhausen@evdio.org.

It takes a village to raise a child and I can always use the help.
